Newly elected Atlanta Mayor, Kasim Reed, followed the tradition of his predecessors. He hired Peter Aman as the Chief Operating Officer, whom has absolutely no local government management experience. The position is the second most powerful within the city government structure. Mr. Aman replaces Greg Giornelli who served the same position under the outgoing Mayor, Shirley Franklin. Gioenelli did not have any local government experience when he was first employed.
While Mr. Aman is well educated and has a background as a business consultant for Bain and Company, he is not qualified to manage one of the largest municipal organizations in the country. In my opinion, you’ll see no positive changes and improvement in government services as a result of the recent election. Mayor Reed should have recruited an experienced city or county manager that can analyze and develop solutions to the multitude of problems existing within the Atlanta city government. How does one go about correcting the numerous problems in the lateral water department without even understanding or having knowledge of the nomenclature. Typical for Atlanta.
